Discount The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Nightfall

I don't understand the 1 star ratings for this book. I am an adult now and I read the original vampire diary books in the 90's when I was a teen. I was beyond thrilled to find out that this series was being made into a TV series. (It's a great show BTW) I was ecstatic to find out that L.J. Smith had written new books. I was almost put off on reading this book when I saw that it had received so many 1 star ratings. Don't believe the lame ratings. This is a great book. The characters are the same people. The book is fast paced. I never wanted to put it down. It's intriguing. There aren't any plot holes. I laughed out loud when I read someone's complaint that the books take place in the present day instead of in the 90's. Why on Earth would the book take place in the 90's? It makes no sense. It's not like the books were period books. I think most of the people who disliked this book either did not understand it or they did not finish reading it. Damon and some of the others were being controlled/possessed which is why they were acting odd. It was all explained in the book. I think it's awesome that Elena got powers and helped to save everyone. I can't wait to read the next book. If you're not a fan of vampires/super natural you shouldn't have read this book to begin with. Don't give a great book a low rating because you're not a fan of the genre.Get more detail about The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Nightfall.

Cheapest Syren (Septimus Heap, Book 5)

While I have been a big fan of Septimus Heap in the past I have to say that I was dissapointed in this latest installment in the Septimus Heap book line.

To start, I feel that the story has drifted apart from what I liked so much in the earlier books. I felt that this book was written to just keep the series going without as much attention to detail and to magic as the past books have had.

I struggles at times to continue but kept on reading hoping to get that spark that I got from teh previuos books... only the spark never came. I don't know where the authur is heading but I am likely to not take the ride with her any further at this point.Get more detail about Syren (Septimus Heap, Book 5).

Cheap The Alchemist (Collins Readers)

In The Alchemist, the young protagonist Santiago's main conflict is within himself, as he journeys both spiritually and physically in search of his life's treasure--his personal legend. Along the way, a series of conflicts, setbacks and truths are revealed to him in the form of wise men, omens, and incidents. Coelho tells his story with simplicity, but there is a moral to the story: follow your dream.

While I enjoyed some aspects of the metaphysical, spiritual approach of The Alchemist, there were some problems with its delivery, and these seemed to ruin what might have been a better book. Written as a fable, it borders on overly simplistic lessons for the young boy. The metaphors were plenty, but became cumbersome because of their overexposure. The repetitive nature of the "nuggets of wisdom" came to be more annoying than compelling. The message implicitly expressed by the author is "buy what I'm selling." The adage "less is more" could apply to the repetitive philosophies presented; there are too many, and had there been less, it might have made for a more profound epiphanies for Santiago (or the reader). Another problem was the secondary characters, who came across as prototypes. Most disappointing was the novel's conclusion, which felt like a proverbial rug being pulled from under me. To go along all this way hoping for some profound meaning and to have it end abruptly with a silly cliché seemed to render the story a sham, a hoax, a publicity stunt. In the end, the "life lessons" that Santiago acquires seem a bit superficial and forced, and this diminishes the story's depth.

I'm sure the book will still get 4 and 5 star reviews and people will follow this book and praise it, but I didn't find it particularly uplifting or inspiring.

Order Adventures of Oliver Twist

I loved this. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for something good to happen to poor Oliver. I especially loved the names that Dickens chose for the characters; Mr. Brownlow, Mr. Bumble, Mr. Sowerberry, Mr. Grimwig, Duff and Blathers...they're all perfect. Why did I wait so long to read this book? Wonderful.Get more detail about Adventures of Oliver Twist.

Where To Buy Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games)

Life should be good for Katniss Everdeen now: she not only survived and won The Capitol's Hunger Games, she outsmarted the powers that be and saved her fellow player from District Twelve, Peeta. She's rich now, living in a special section reserved for victors of the Games, and her mother and little sister are safe from the hunger that surrounds her community. Even better, she's able to spend her Sundays back in the woods with her best friend Gale, hunting and sharing their special bond. And then The Capitol comes calling for Katniss and Peeta to do their Victory Tour of the other districts and once again, Katniss finds herself in unbelievable danger as she realizes that the government will do anything to make her pay the price for defying them.

Wow. Just Wow. Catching Fire had me from the first pages and didn't let go (and still hasn't). As Katniss and Peeta tour the other districts, they see that there is more oppression out there than they'd realized, and they are unable to stop themselves from speaking out, however subtly, against The Capitol. Of course this doesn't go over well and the pair know they will have to pour on their pretend love affair thickly in hopes that they can repair the damage they've done. It's only when they return home to a very changed District Twelve that it becomes clear that they are going to have to pay the ultimate price.

The characterizations in this novel just got better and better as the story went on, with Katniss and Peeta's relationship deepening significantly. Collins does an outstanding job of making Katniss uncertain to whom her heart belongs as her life is on the line. Haymitch is back as well; his personal demons seem poised to destroy him on the surface, but is he hiding behind them for different reasons than it seems? So many layers, so much going on, all of it unbelievable in its wonderful, riveting awfulness.

The world Suzanne Collins has created in Catching Fire is grim and despicable; yet hope abounds in the symbols of Katniss, Peeta, and a mockingjay pin. With former Games victors mixed into this novel, I could begin to see and understand the desperation that exists on all levels of this dystopian world. With all the action, betrayals, and subterfuge going on, I had to force myself not to gulp this entire book down in one big gorging session. With the final page, my anxiety was still climbing, and I know for a fact it won't be relieved until I hold the next book in the series in my hot little hands. It's that good. This is a not to be missed series for readers of all ages.Get more detail about Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games).

Shop For Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Diary of a Wimpy Kid was the first book I read for the readathon, and it was a wonderful way to start the day. It's written in actual diary form, and the delightful middle school boy, Gregory, who narrates loves to draw cartoons. The end result is something in the graphic novel family, but text dominates the graphics. For a taste of what the book looks like, visit Amazon's look inside.

As someone who read Captain Underpants, I had relatively low expectations. There is often quite a disconnect between things kids find funny (Captain Underpants, for example) and things adults find funny (are there kids who laugh at 30 Rock as hard as I do?) Diary of a Wimpy Kid is one of the rare books both kids and adults can enjoy. It's certainly a kids book, but I laughed out loud numerous times. It's hilarity is often clever, but there are also a few well-placed low-brow moments.

I thoroughly enjoyed Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and I have already requested the next three in the series from the library. If there are young, reluctant readers in your life, please hand them this book. If there are kids who love to read, please hand them this book. Before you do, read it yourself, and laugh.Get more detail about Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw Review

After reading about the Wimpy Kid series in an article on NPR's website, I decided to pick up a copy to see what it was all about. The story follows the adventures of Greg and his thoughts on day to day middle school life. His two brothers primarily offer annoyance to his daily existence. He and his main man Rolley stick together through various trials and experiences. A running theme once Greg's mother passes laundry responsibilities to him is his refusal to wash laundry and instead increasingly wear the least dirty cloths and least undesirable clothing options. Each adventure leads the reader want to find out what the next will be. The illustrations add humor and context as well. The book is entertaining, humorous, and a quick read. The Book Thief Top Quality

This book was one of the only ones that made me very emotional after reading it. I decided to use this book for a report, and the blurb seemed interesting so I borrowed it out of the library. The length was a little off-putting since I had to do the report in a week but as soon as I started reading I became engrossed in it. I would read many pages during my breaks at school, and soon I began to feel sympathy for all the characters and I felt as if I were connected to them. Once I finished this book, I was speechless. Nothing could describe the emotions that went through me while reading The Book Thief. The conclusion shocked me and I admit that I cried. It was very sad.

I love this book. It's extremely creative -- it's told from the view of "Death." Liesel is a well developed character whose innocence is excellently portrayed by Zusak. I have to admit, this Markus Zusak is a good author. Every single aspect of the plot melded together perfectly, and he finished everything in a compelling yet heartbreaking scene. I will always remember this book, and I always list this as my favorite book on sites such as Facebook. :P

I know there are so many good reviews for this book but I felt that I just had to speak my mind. Peace out, buy this book.Get more detail about The Book Thief.

Outlander This instant

"Outlander" is the best book I have read this year. I have moved on to the other Outlander series novels and I am almost finished with the "Drums of Autumn". LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary Immediately

I have a six year old who LOVES this book. I realize many collectors are not terribly impressed with this book, but it's geared at a younger audience - thus the "visual" dictionary. It has awesome pictures of all the star wars legos made up to this point in time. There are descriptions of the characters and buildings/ships, along with the year they were released. Admittedly, there is not a ton of descriptive information, but it's more than enough for a young star wars lego fan! Especially when less font leaves room for bigger images!Get more detail about LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary.

The Angel Experiment (Maximum Ride, Book 1) Best Quality

This is an awesome series. I found myself falling in love with the characters from the very first chapter. I have devoured these books in no time flat. I'm a little disappointed that I will be starting the last book in the series soon because the characters are so wonderful that I hate to lose them. I honestly feel like I know them. The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner's Dilemma Buy Now

The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner's Dilemma (and the two that precede it), are three of our family's favorite books! We couldn't wait to start the next book as we finished each. When we finally read this last installment, my son said, "It's a shame that we're done reading the best three books in the world!"
We found the stories to be exciting and full of twists, the characters well written and we enjoyed each of their quirky personalities. In fact, we raved so much that my husband read them when we finished, and he enjoyed each just as much. If more people knew about Reynie, Sticky, Constance and Kate, my kid's Halloween costumes would make more sense! I wish Trenton Lee Steward had more children's books like these. We would highly recommend these books to anyone, young or old, that enjoys a good read!
A word of warning (does not spoil): A few times during the series one of the main characters has nightmares about the "Old Hag" and I thought that would suggest things to my kids that had never occurred to them, things like thinking they are going to have nightmares. Thankfully, this is only mentioned very minimally and isn't an integral part of the story so it was easily skipped while reading aloud to my children. That aside, They're great! Read them! The Hunger Games Decide Now

The Hunger Games was quite a page turner, and while I did enjoy it, I didn't quite love the book.

I'm not going to go through the plot as quite a few people have read it, or if they haven't, there are plenty of sources to find that information. I will say that the plot was, in my view, the best part of the book. As I said above, it's quite a page turner, but although I didn't think the writing was bad per se, I didn't feel it was up to par with The Giver by Lois Lowry or The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer. The romance angle in the book irritated me a bit. I understand to a degree why it was necessary to the plot, but I thought it could have been a little more well done. Another minor irritation was the naming of the characters in the book. I suppose it was done on purpose, but I felt it distracted me from the story every time I came upon a strange name. I've never really noticed it in books like Lord of the Rings, etc., but in this book the names just seemed a bit silly.

Even with all that said, I did like the book quite a bit and plan on reading the entire trilogy. I hate to be too negative when I actually enjoyed it, but since it's received so many rave reviews, I just thought I'd explain why my rating was a little lower.Get more detail about The Hunger Games.

Tempted (House of Night) Right now

Let me start this by saying I like this series. I like the characters and I like the story. However this book did not seem to be a complete book to me. The bulk of the book is what I would thought of as the beginning of a novel. Adding to that the fact that nothing was really resolved by the end and Im left feeling a bit let down. I'm all for leaving a few strands of story for later books, but Nothing was resolved. At all. however the book did provide a few interesting twists to the story that I did not expect, and fans of the series should and probably will read it, even if it seems like its only a segue to another book.

Oh just wanted to add I also dont like the "bullpoopie" stuff. she's a teenager and she should act like it. Also all the pop culture references really bring you out of the story if you dont know the song or the movie theyre talking about. Get more detail about Tempted (House of Night).

Save The Magician's Elephant

I just loved this story. My 7 year old daughter is an advanced reader for her age, and I bought this book thinking that we would read it out loud together. However, she has decided to read it on her own, and loves it. Still, some of the language and themes are, I think, a little advanced for her, so I wanted to read it myself so that I could help her if she encounters difficulty in her own reading. So far, she hasn't needed any help. I think she is probably missing some of the subtleties, but she loves the story nonetheless, and so I am thrilled. The book is almost poetic, and the imagery is just wonderful. It really is a book for the senses. I would highly recommend it as a read for all ages!Get more detail about The Magician's Elephant.

I loved these books, the caracters as they develope and unfold, how they become a little part of you and how vividly real the author makes the story.

All those bashing "Breaking Dawn" I just cannot agree with you. I laughed, I cried, I had a good time.

I am so bumbed "Midnight Sun" may never come into fruition (see her web site), what she provides there is as well another amazing story we may never get to read finished. Very sad...(for all us Twighlight readers).

Cheap Three Cups Of Tea: One Man's Mission To Promote Peace

This book is a must read for every person. I would highly recommend it to get a better understanding of the worsening situation of War and Terrorism at hand.
This book helps you understand how the so called Muslims "the Taliban" or "the Terrorists" are recruiting so many "American haters" on the name of "jihad". It shows that Muslims are not terrorist, rather they are very compassionate people. They are only being defamed by a certain group of extremist so called-Muslims.
Also it tells the story of Americans. The image they have on that part of the world of being ruthless and heartless is not true and how to change that image and have a positive impact on those nations and to win their hearts which is actually going to help win this war!
It is a story of great courage, endurance and determination.
I can guarantee that at the end of book you would feel inspired to do something positive.
Greg Mortenson is my favorite hero. Get more detail about Three Cups Of Tea: One Man's Mission To Promote Peace.

By far Eclipse is my favorite book of the Saga. I can't express every reason why, but as an over view: It deals with issues that are faced by regular couples. You also get to learn more about the other members of the Cullen family, which is nice.Get more detail about Eclipse.
